It's not terrible it's just way less nice than the other dorms but you will live if you get this one

People are so f**king dramatic its fine, I promise. I was scared reading these reviews but we are literally 7 minutes from the town/frats/everything else, and 5 minutes from academic buildings and the old main quad. I promise it will be OK - don’t stress about it.

Fucking disgusting.

Freshman | April 10
Constantly smells like weed and the RAs aren’t doing anything about it. The showers no longer have guaranteed hot water and the only solution offered is to run a sink while showering and maybe the water will turn hot. All the furniture in the rooms are old and damaged, the water is discolored and all the common areas are dirty. It’s disgusting that people who live in this dorm have to pay the same price as people who live in the much newer and nicer dorms. Shango is the oldest and crappiest dorm on campus.

Only been here for a few weeks but it’s awful. The toilet seats are dirty, the showers are cramped and tiny with a light that only works sometimes. Everything is old and dirty. The RAs are almost never available. When you submit work orders it takes a long time for them to be responded to. My closet door was detached from the wall and it took a week for it to be fixed. My blinds can’t be raised or lowered and they still haven’t been fixed. Shango is the worst residence hall by far and it’s shameful that SUNY New Paltz allows its students to live in such poor conditions.

You are lucky to get one hot shower a week. Even when you get that one hot shower, the showers are disgusting and have see-through curtains. There have been multiple times where we have been without toilet paper for weeks on end. The walls are thin as paper, and you can hear everything going on at each side of your dorm. It feels like you are living in poverty in this terrible dorm, and if you get put in Shango, I recommend moving out within a week.

This is the oldest hall on campus, you can't expect much. It's close to all of the academic buildings, but a hike to all other dorm halls AND the dining hall. The distance to the athletic facilities is a whole 'nother story. SO far. Shango has communal bathrooms, but honestly could be worse. As long as everyone picks up after themselves. The room itself is tiny. Furniture is old, floors are permanently dirty, walls are gross. I did like the closets though - was almost like a wardrobe.
