Kaufman Hall Resident Reviews and Ratings

Sophomore | April 8
Kaufman Hall, despite being one of the newer dorms, is extremely outdated. Housing is scarce. Most 2nd year students didn’t get returner housing which is terrible if you ask me. The dorm requires constant maintenance and putting in work orders to resolve plumbing and heating/cooling issues. They do not clean the heating/cooling source so you may experience allergy issues and if you’re extremely sensitive, even sickness. I live in a triple converted to a double and the room is huge. but severely lacks in overhead lighting, so despite the amount of lamps and other lights you add, it is extremely dark very early in the day. The stove/oven is very old and dirty despite keeping it clean; it came that way. The furniture is extremely outdated and the floors constantly look dirty because of dried paint and scuff marks, no matter how much you try to clean them. The bathroom is so odd; it has a stall door for the toilet which absolutely isn’t necessary and only gets in the way. Other than that, there are scarce common areas and areas to study in the basement are small, so good luck during finals trying to study in these areas since there are many residents in this building and the spaces fill up fast. The black and white printer in the basement has been broken for a long time and no one fixes it, so you’re forced to print out of the color printer which is more expensive. Security can be cold; they do their job, but if you’re not from New York, they can come off as rude and raise their voice to take out your ID before you have a chance to get it. They have gotten more strict on visitation; now you must pre-register visitors on the housing portal and include the exact date and the time they’re arriving and the time they’re leaving. This is absolutely impossible to know…. They also require a picture of the visitor, their email, phone number, and birth date…….. This is not TSA at the airport. You also must tell them every time that the guest is leaving or entering the building an
