Freshman | June 11
The dorm I lived in was on the smaller side, especially considering it was meant for two people. Sharing such a tight space made it difficult to store belongings or have any real privacy, and it often felt cramped if both of us were trying to study or get ready at the same time. One of the biggest downsides, though, was the lack of air conditioning. Since the rooms weren’t equipped with air conditioning and students weren’t allowed to bring their own units, the heat during the warmer months became almost unbearable. Even with fans running, the rooms would get stuffy and uncomfortable, making it hard to sleep or focus. Another major inconvenience was the dorm’s location. If you didn’t have a car, getting to the dining halls was a hassle, depending on which one you decided to go to. It felt even longer in bad weather. But the worst part was walking back at night. I often found myself rushing just to get back to the dorm, constantly looking over my shoulder. Despite these challenges, the dorm had its perks. It was one of the quieter buildings on campus. Most of the residents were respectful and kept to themselves, making it a good place to focus on schoolwork. The people who lived there were generally kind and easy to get along with, which made the tight living situation more bearable. The RAs were also pretty relaxed—they didn’t enforce strict rules unless someone was being disruptive, so as long as you weren’t disturbing others, they let things slide.
